The County of Simcoe, in conjunction with The Archives Association of Ontario, is marking Archives Awareness Week this week.

In a news release issued last week, the county notes its archive is Ontario's first upper-tier municipal archives, created in 1966.

Since the facility was founded, the county says students; academics, writers, filmmakers, media, governments, historians, genealogists and so forth have accessed the archive.

The archive contains an array of material, including old newspapers, legal documents, photographs and maps.

In marking Archives Awareness Week, the archive is introducing a new, searchable, online database. Demonstrations will be conducted each day between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

To learn more about the archive, visit the website, by clicking the link.

The archive is located at 1149 Hwy. 26 in Midhurst, opposite the County of Simcoe building.

For more information, call 726-9300, ext. 1295.
