Senseless vandalism. John Craw, president of the Painswick Horticultural Society, examines a park bench broken sometime last weekend at the parkette located at Victoria Street and Yonge Street in Stroud. The bench is one of several installed by volunteer members of the society, thanks to contributions by local businesses during the past few years. The parkette is a pleasant oasis for visitors to the Stroud Recreation Centre and library and contains flowerbeds and a host of shrubbery maintained by the society. While it won’t be too hard to replace the wooden slats, the damage “is rather disappointing,” Craw says.
