Do you have a latent desire to get up on a stage and bare your soul?
If so, the organizers of the “Innisfil’s Got Talent” show want to hear from you.
Sponsored by the Alcona Business Association (ABA), the event is meant to showcase local talent in a fun setting, says co-organizer Lenore Dempster who is heading up the contest along with Patti Bentley and Leila Puust.
“It’s a good way for the ABA to be active in the community. We want to see whatever talent you have,” says Dempster. “It’s not just singing, it could be playing an instrument, reading poetry, or any special ability a person has.”
Preliminary auditions will be held at Innisfil Community Church from Saturday, Apr. 26 to Thursday, May 2.
From there, semi-finals will be held to pick the top three in each of five age categories – 15 and under, 16 to 25, 26 to 39, 40 to 64 and 65 years of age and older.
The crème of the crop will perform on the main stage on Saturday afternoon at Summerfest in June. The champion in each category will present an encore performance on the Sunday afternoon.
There are only two stipulations for entries. If people are performing in a group, they must enter into the age category of the oldest participant. Second, applicants must be residents of Innisfil.
“We’ve had a few people call already,” she says. “In the past, I’ve been quite impressed with the talent we have here in Innisfil.”
In the coming weeks, the trio will be going out to obtain sponsors and prizes for the competition.
“A lot of people are thrilled to see it happening,” Dempster adds.
“It’s a very family-oriented event. We’re very grateful to Innisfil community church for letting us hold our auditions there and to ICECORP for allowing us to use their main stage at Summerfest.”
