A 17-year-old Nantyr Shores Secondary School student was charged with assault with a weapon Monday after a 19-year-old youth was stabbed twice in the stomach during an altercation in the Alcona school’s parking lot.
The incident started when the suspect started kicking the door of the victim’s car, South Simcoe Police say.
When the driver got out of the car to stop the damage, the suspect pulled a small knife and stabbed the victim twice in the lower torso, police say. Then the suspect slashed the victim’s cheek before fleeing school property.
The victim was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment and was released later in the evening. The wounds were considered superficial.
Police arrested the suspect later that evening and seized the knife.
Police say the suspect and victim have a history of altercations.
But Nantyr principal Jean Hargreaves said only the suspect, who did not come to school Tuesday, attended the high school.
She told The Journal Tuesday morning it was still too early to determine how the school would deal with the student who was charged but released on a promise to appear in youth court May 6.
“I just finished meeting with police so I’d like to know all the facts before we determine what will happen next,” she said. “Obviously, this is a very serious case.”
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Jeff Fawcett at (705) 436-2141, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.1800222tips.com , or contact Student Crime Stoppers through their local school.
