South Simcoe Police are reminding youth that pointing toy guns in public is no joke following an incident in Stroud Sunday afternoon.
Just after 4:30 p.m. officers responded to a complaint after a woman said she saw a gun being pointed from a motor vehicle at a youth sitting on a curb.
Officers found a group of youths in a car and another youth who was outside the car. Officers cautiously approached the youths and learned there was a cap gun in the car.
Police were told that everyone involved, including the youth sitting on the curb, knew the toy gun was being pointed as part of joke.
The youths involved were all 16 and 17 years old. The boys were warned that the cap gun could be mistaken for the real thing, which could lead to serious consequences. Their parents were also advised.
The public is reminded that should they see an incident of this nature, not to assume that any gun is a toy and call police immediately.
South Simcoe Police would also like to remind the public that playing with guns in public and within a motor vehicle is a serious matter that police deal with as a high priority and can have very dangerous consequences for the public and for police.
