Mayor Brian Jackson is to be highly commended for his firm position in the boundary negotiations with Barrie.
However, he must hang tough against the Queen’s Park orders "not to discuss it". Mr. Jackson was elected by the taxpayers of Innisfil, he should not have to take orders from some unelected bureaucrat.
He has an absolute obligation to keep us informed of all details of this negotiation. If Queen’s Park doesn't like that - tough!
Innisfil should terminate these talks, keep the land and go it alone on the servicing issue. You can bet that 518 hectares of land has now or will have in the future far greater value that the cost of servicing a similar acreage.
It might be necessary to sit on the land and forego servicing the land for a time. But what's so sacred about growth? And if the province is opposed to creating more industry in Innisfil Heights, what is the point of having services put in?
Keep up the good fight, Mayor Jackson. Tell Queen’s Park and Barrie to get lost.
