STORMFRONT is front: John Brown; back row: Chris Turner, Zeke Nye and Andrew Lindsay.

Through rain, snow, hail or sleet it’s classic rock all the way for STORMFRONT, a local band that will perform at Winterfest's Feb. 23 comedy show and dance at the Stroud Recreation Centre.

Comprised of Chris Turner, Andrew Lindsay, Zeke Nye and John Brown, the band has been playing together for the past four years.

Accustomed to having the majority of their gigs in Midland, Orillia and Penetang for the last few years, STORMFRONT is making its way to more and more appearances in Innisfil, Barrie and Collingwood.

“We’re always learning new songs,” said STORMFRONT spokesperson John Brown, adding the band currently plays an eclectic mix, and has a repertoire of more than 60 popular tunes.

Songs like those performed by AC/DC, U2, The Beatles, BTO, and The Tragically Hip are popular at the venues where STORMFRONT has been creating a stir. They also play a bit of blues and country, but for the most part are focused on hits one might hear on the Top 500 on Rock 95.

“We like to play what everybody likes to get up and dance to,” Brown noted.

While band members also have day jobs, last year their dedication yielded more than 30 shows.

Equally accustomed and adept at playing at bars or fundraisers, STORMFRONT will be looking to the new year to expand their experiences to include more fundraisers as well as outdoor gigs like Midland’s Music in the Park.

Turner, a resident of Barrie is lead vocalist and lead guitarist. He was classically trained in his youth and later became interested in folk music, having been inspired by Eric Clapton, and other artists of the era. Andrew Lindsay of Barrie is also on lead vocals, bass and guitar.

As a self-taught musician, he has more than 20 years experience in blues, progressive rock and classic rock bands. Zeke Nye of Innisfil is on drums. He has also played with a number of local bands including Exit for Eyes, This Was, and Hot Rocks. Brown, who is also an Innisfil resident, began studying music 10 years ago. He plays keyboard, tambourine and cowbell, and sites Ronnie Hawkins as one of his favourite bands.

On Feb. 23, STORMFRONT will provide danceable music for the Innisfil Winterfest and will follow a comedy performance by Yuk Yuk’s at the Stroud Recreation Centre. And on March 22, the band will perform at the Innisfil Minor Hockey Association Fundraising Dance at the Stroud Recreation Centre.
