Everything has its beauty … but not everyone sees it.
Take (yuk) a snake for instance. I don’t see their beauty very easily because I’m scared stiff of the things.
But if you take a look at a photo of one, a diamond-back rattler for instance, with its intricate patterns, scales and colours, it certainly has to be recognized as quite beautiful. I still dislike them with a passion.
Then there’s that stinky little devil the skunk.
The odiferous little creatures are pretty much a ‘turn off’ because of that smell they can cut loose with, but I watched a documentary on the tube and there was little black and white Momma busily taking care of her babies. That’s about as beautiful as you get.
The baboon fits the same category as little ‘stinky-Momma”… they’re drop-dead dopey looking.
The huge canine teeth protruding when they open up … the nose that’s gotta be 20 feet long … and that butt … well it’s just “butt-ugly’… but like the skunk, I watched a doco that showed a baboon protectively caring for her ‘kids’ and it was something to see.
What about little black squiggly things on a piece of paper that appear between lines and look a lot like teeny mallets you’d play croquet with?
I’m trying my best to describe notes on a musical score … there’s certainly nothing beautiful about looking at them.
But again, let a bunch of musicians cut loose on the theme for “Picnic” with their brass, woodwinds, strings and percussion instruments and you’ll experience a rash of “chilly bumps” (Swainese for ‘goose bumps’) that will leave you wanting a whole heckuvalot more of this glimpse of beauty.
And what can be much better than reading words that hit your hot button hard?
You wouldn’t think combinations of letters put on paper to form words could create beauty, but sometimes it can be the most vibrant source of beauty you can come across.
I think it’s because those words on that paper (or words just remembered in your mind) leave you with the ability to place ideas exactly where you want them … cut your imagination loose and conjure up some of the most beautiful scenes imaginable.
This particular type of beauty can be the very best because it’s all yours.
You helped create it. You coloured it with just the shades you like most, and you’re the one who gets the biggest and most rewarding charge for your soul out of it.
The last little chunk of beauty I’ll mention here can be the very best of all.
It’s guaranteed to make you laugh at just the right times…it will definitely give you a glow of warmth all over. It’s one of those sources of beauty that will give to you, and, gladly take right back from you.
It’s really not very big for all the amazing power it delivers and it can be quite contradictory as well.
It can smell to high heaven, yet within a few minutes be restored to something better than any smell on earth. It can shatter your solitude with a noise that’s quite difficult to describe, and again, within seconds, be as quiet and placid as a be-calmed pond on a summer day.
I’m sure you know by now I’m referring to our babies; those little bundles of beauty that can steal your heart with a giggle, or gurgle up a raging storm of instant happiness.
Yep, there’s a lot of beauty in our world.
