Re: Critic admits he didn’t’ do homework, Oct. 26

It is hard to believe your reporter attended the same OMB hearing as I did on Tuesday Oct.23rd. Apparently she chose to hear what the developer
wanted her to hear.
She suggested that Robert Eisenberg failed to do his homework. I would not hesitate to suggest that Mr. Eisenberg possibly knows more about the condition of Lake Simcoe than anyone else attending the Big Bay Resort hearing. As a layperson, he has dedicated much time and effort into determining “ what is wrong with Lake Simcoe and how can it be fixed.
Mr. Eisenberg made it clear he had no issue with consultant’s reports. His issue was with “ what the reports were not asked to address”, and he made that abundantly clear. He had in fact done his homework and done it well.  And therein lies the rub. Geranium Corp. lawyer Michael Melling quickly realized he could not challenge the issues Mr. Eisenberg raised so he threw out his own “red herring”. He directed the conversation away from the issues, to the very technical reports that were not in question. Mr. Eisenberg knew his facts, and when you know the facts, one can give honest forthright answers. Mr. Eisenberg did.
Mr. Eisenberg strongly suggested that the reports he had read seemed to be very skillfully prepared but those reports did not and do not address questions that ordinary citizen’s, acting with expert advice, were able to piece together. Robert Eisenberg suggested to the OMB that Lake Simcoe is in jeopardy and that destroying working farms and/or building huge new developments outside existing settlement areas was not the way to fix it.
In my view, building an oversized Marina/Resort on this very fragile lake is clearly a giant step in the wrong direction and will cause much short and long-term harm.
