Re: Traffic sours quaint Cookstown’s flavour, Sept. 7

No one gets any more frustrated than myself when I go into Cookstown for business and find it nearly worth my life to try to cross the street. There is definitely a problem with pedestrians trying to cross the road from the bank to the Post Office.

As people get older and walk somewhat slower, this becomes more of a problem. A crosswalk would be nice but that takes away from the thrill of running for you life. The bureaucrats would only tell us this would hold traffic up even more. They don’t seem to be in too much of a hurry to come up with a solution to the problem though.

We should not put all the blame on traffic from Alliston’s Honda plant. It is a contributing factor but not the total cause of the problem.

I have seen the traffic backed up all the way from Cookstown east to my residence on Highway 89 on Sundays and holidays and Honda cannot be blamed for that.

It is approximately one and a half kilometres from Cookstown to my residence. As far as truck traffic goes, unfortunately, there is only one road running east and west that takes you to Alliston and beyond.

All that we can hope for is that they put a bypass in the right place and they don’t wait too long to do it.
