It was a good thing Ernie Adams decided to get gas for his lawn mower when he did.
As Adams drove down Southview Avenue in Stroud at about 2 p.m. Tuesday he noticed some grey smoke coming from a house on the street.
A few seconds later, huge orange flames were bursting from the roof over the garage and the smoke had turned black.
“I just stopped in the middle of the road and ran up to the house to see if anyone was inside,” Adams said. “I called about six times and finally a lady came out.”
Then Adams moved a vehicle out of the driveway while another passerby moved a second vehicle.
“It was amazing how quickly it went up in flames,” Adams told the Innisfil Journal, which arrived on scene before firefighters started to douse the flames.
Innisfil firefighters managed to contain most of the damage to the garage although it appeared some of flames may have entered the rafters in the roof over the house.
The woman was comforted by neighbours as firefighters worked to put out the blaze.
