Residents and business owners can expect a noisy summer as reconstruction starts on Innisfil Beach Road this summer.
But the town’s politicians have offered a slight reprieve by not allowing work on Sundays, statutory holidays or Saturdays of a long weekend.
Facing a tight construction schedule, Innisfil Hydro asked for exemptions to the town’s noise bylaw so crews could replace utilities along IBR from St. John’s Road to the 25th Sideroad quicker.
But council only granted the exemption for Saturday’s from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from June to September.
“No one wants to get this work done more than I do,” said Coun. Rod Boynton. “The business community realizes what they are going to have to live through this year and next, but I just can’t condone work being done on a day of worship and a day of rest for our residents.”
Innisfil Hydro will use sub-contractors to bury hydro wires and create a power system for new streetlights as part of Alcona’s downtown urbanization plan.
Hydro wants its work done by September so the reconstruction to the road itself can begin this fall.
But some councillors fear that work may be pushed off until next year.
“This tender is already six months late going out,” Coun. Bill Pring said.
