As a senior in Innisfil, I was so excited to find we were getting a YMCA
built here. My doctor had told me to go to a pool for aqua fit classes.
After arthritis started to limit my activities a pool was the best means to keep active. Then finding a pool in the area that I could afford on my fixed income was a problem.
When I called the Y and found out how much it was to join I was shocked! I remember in Nova Scotia where I grew up, the YMCA was where every one was welcome whether you had the money or not and it kept a lot of kids off the streets.
I could not even start to imagine being able to afford to go there but then I guess the government would rather pay out for health bills then keep people active and out of emergency rooms. I finally had to join a community centre that is not in my area so I have to pay more for the membership, and even that is cheaper than the Y! When did the YMCA become a place for the rich people and where can us "poorer " people go?
I have worked all my life and raised a family and supported this country to be treated like a second-class citizen.
