The partnership of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the Town of Innisfil has resulted in the building of the impressive recreation centre that offers a diverse range of activities for all Innisfil residents to enjoy. But misinformation lately has clouded the good work done by both the municipality and the YMCA.

As part of the partnership agreement, Town of Innisfil employees were offered a discount on memberships, The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka felt offering the discounts to our municipal partners was the fair thing to do in the context of our partnership and how we treat our own employees This has no cost to the individual taxpayer of Innisfil and involves a relatively small number of people.

The YMCA has built a reputation on being affordable and open to all. No one is turned away because of their particular financial situation. We welcome everyone, young or old, able-bodied or physically-challenged, affluent or marginalized to take advantage of the programs and services we offer. We extend subsidies to those who are unable as opposed to unwilling to pay the full membership costs. Our agreement with the Town des not lessen our ability to support those from the community.

Through a simple, confidential process, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka determines the level of assistance required on an individual basis. Applicants are treated with the utmost dignity and respect. Assisted members enjoy unlimited access to our facilities and are never identified as being subsidized. While it is true 25% of our members are assisted, they receive the same kindness and warmth extended to full-fee members by our staff and volunteers.

Much discussion has involved the affordability of the YMCA’s average monthly fees. Given current economic conditions; this is actually an incredible value. The $89 per month for a family of four breaks down to a cost of $5 per person for a weekly visit. The average family of four will pay $36 to go to the movies, $25 per hour if the same family goes bowling. The YMCA provides an affordable option to parents struggling to find safe, healthy and low-cost entertainment alternatives. You can also come to the YMCA as many times as often as you want for one monthly fee.

We invite you to come take a tour of our facility and talk to our staff. I’m sure once you’ve experienced everything the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka has to offer, you’ll understand what thousands of our members already know; the YMCA is the place for you!
