A 73-year-old woman is at Sunnybrook Medical Centre in Toronto after being airlifted by helicopter on Sunday night. At approximately 8:40 p.m., she was crossing the road on Conc. 14 when she was struck by a westbound pickup truck. She sustained serious head and internal injuries. The road was closed for several hours while the accident was investigated by accident reconstructionists from the South Simcoe Police traffic unit. The woman was first taken to Royal Victoria Hospital. The incident is still under investigation and police are asking for any witnesses to call 436-2141.
Domestic mischief
An Alcona man is facing domestic mischief charges after police were called to a house last Friday evening at approximately 7:15 p.m. Officers arriving on the scene found a considerable amount of damage had been done. After talking to the man’s spouse, they learned the pair had argued earlier in the day and the man had left the house. He returned around 7 p.m. and began smashing a variety of items. He then left the house again. Police found the 24-year-old a short distance away. He was charged and released from custody with a promise to appear in court. The woman was uninjured.
Thieves break into garage
South Simcoe Police are looking for any leads into a theft that took place between 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 and early Sunday morning on the 25th Sideroad. Thieves forced their way into a garage and removed a red, gas power washer and three sets of golf clubs. The brand names of the golf clubs were Ping, King Cobra and Top Flite.
