If you think you’ve been stung by a contractor, tradesperson or company, there are some avenues to try to recover losses, but they are time consuming and certainly not guaranteed to remedy a poor situation in a timely manner.

The province’s Consumer Protection Act, 2002, offers one means of redress.

It’s important to know your rights and review them carefully to determine if you have a legitimate complaint. Check the website, a link to which is provided.

You can visit the “Information by Category” section to find detailed information on a variety of topics. Regardless, consumers must first file an official complaint with the individual, or business, before the local branch can get involved.

If the company is a member of the Better Business Bureau, call the office serving the Barrie area at 1-800-459-8875 or visit its link.
