It’s a far cry from being perfect but no one to date has come up with a system that works quite as well.
I’m writing about the democratic way of life, and we, who are privileged to live in the free world, are fortunate enough to live by.
The ongoing life of a million freedoms we enjoy was not presented to us on a silver platter, it was earned for us through oceans of blood, sweat and tears.
Great men and women of our faraway past, our most recent yesterdays, the present, and most assuredly the future, have, and will, lay down their very lives for us, to let you and I enjoy the choice of our daily freedoms.
It’s difficult to give our heartfelt thanks on a daily basis, but I suppose if we deeply appreciate and don’t ever take for granted what we have, this is the most effective way possible of making sure we give those ‘thanks’ every single step we take in enjoying our lives.
The ancient Greeks came up with their ideas on getting it started. Their democracies grew city by city until a system was adopted for their whole nation.
England picked up on the good thing 400 years later and refined our Parliamentary Democratic system.
The Presidential system of Democracy emerged with the United States being the largest and most successful example.
Today, I truly believe democracy continues to bask in its obvious and undeniable brilliance.
No dictatorship, fascist state, socialist country or whatever governance you define, outshines democracy, and the people, who have their say in what’s right and wrong with what we collectively do as nations living with this type of system.
Feels pretty good, doesn’t it?
I know our friends to the south have their way of irritating the world at times, but, when it comes right down to it, they sure have a way of being awfully darn good.
I believe the most recent example of this is wrapped up – in particular – in two people; Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
They are absolute proof that democracy is unquestionably brilliant.
The democratic means of forming a government and electing a supreme commander for their country continues to be played out before the world on a daily basis.
It is showing beyond a doubt how the people of the largest democracy in the world are truly making it possible for the American people to decide who is most capable of guiding them through the next critical steps of refining their country and its capabilities.
These candidates were given the opportunity (among others) of establishing their credentials above others: a highly capable woman; a brilliant member of the nations largest minority, a black man; and, a veteran of the American governing system.
I continue to watch this race with the greatest of interest because I believed each of them, in their own way, had much to offer, although candidate Clinton has now been eliminated from the presidential aspect of this contest.
I also watch this elective process with the confidence that our neighbour to the south still has much to teach us about building a strong and absolutely free country.
A country built solidly on these freedoms; on the varied experience of the different types of ethnic backgrounds their citizens offer for the good of the whole; and, the example they set for the world in humanity, technology and lifestyle.
I’m a Canadian, through and through.
I will remain a Canadian through and through.
I’m proud of my envied and unique Canuck Qualities recognized and respected throughout the world.
But I’m also happy to be counted on by our friends to the south as their strong ally, their big friendly giant of a neighbour to the north, and a group of folks who’ll come to their aid as quickly and freely as they’d come to ours.
You betcha!
