Friends of the accused street racers file into Barrie court as the two make their first appearance

Two Etobicoke men accused of street racing in the death of trucker David Virgoe last week will have another bail hearing Tuesday.

Nauman Nusrat and Prabjhan Multani, both 20, appeared via video remand in Barrie court Monday, but the two sides couldn’t agree on conditions.  The two are accused of criminal negligence and dangerous driving, among other charges.

Virgoe, 48, was killed Monday, trying to dodge two vehicles darting in and out of the northbound lanes of Highway 400 at high speed.

His rig then slid into the centre median, jackknifed and crashed into a ditch.

Virgoe is being hailed as a hero in some quarters for stopping his wheels in time to prevent them from veering into oncoming traffic.

The case brought the issue of street racing back into focus, with provincial officials urging crackdowns.

The cases of both Nusrat and Multani are under a publication ban.
