It's official. When the Alliston Hornets skate in their first Jr. C league championship series game in 24 years it will be against the Penetanguishene Kings.

Penetang won 5-3 against the Fergus Devils Tuesday night. The game wrapped up a six-game series with Penetang taking it four games to two.

The Hornets wrapped up their own semi-final series Feb. 27, sweeping the Erin Shamrocks in four games.

This year the Hornets and Kings have had quite a rivalry. In the regular seaso, the Hornets were the team to beat, coming in first in the Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior Hockey League standings with 75 points. The Kings, last year's league champs, were second - just four points behind the Alliston squad.

Of the seven times the two teams have met this year, the Hornets have won five of the games.

The first game of the series is at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Industrial Parkway in Alliston, Fri., March 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Game two will held be Sun., March 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Penetang. Game three is Wed., March 12 in Alliston, at 7:30 p.m. Game four will be back up in Penetang Fri., March 14, at 8:30 p.m. Game five (if needed) is slated for Sun., March 16 at 6:30 p.m. in Alliston. Game six (if needed) is scheduled for Penetang March 18, at 8:30 p.m., and game seven would be back at home for Alliston March 20 at 7:30 p.m.

Only tickets for the Hornets’ first home game are currently on sale. Tickets are $8 for adults, and $6 for students and seniors. They are available in advance at the New Tec Rec Centre customer service desk.

It is expected tickets will be available for game two at some point during the game Friday night.

To help cheer on the Hornets as they shoot for the top spot, look to the Weekend Herald for a four-page, pullout section that includes a Hornets poster to hang in your window or hold at the game. We’ll also soon be posting a copy for you to print out on your home computer to display in your car and home windows to show the Hornets that the whole town is behind them in their bid for the league championship.
