The Hornets are unbeaten so far this season.
Friday night’s game against the Schomberg Cougars proved to be more of a match than anticipated thanks to a hot Cougar goaltender. Netminder, Aaron Green, has been playing the majority of games this season after joining the Schomberg roster this year.
After a scoreless first period the Alliston squad turned it up a notch and put three on the scoreboard in the second.
Schomberg’s Enrico Ferri put the Cougars on the scoreboard early in the third period with a short chip to the top right corner of the net.
Alliston came back with two more goals to take the win 5-2.
Ryan Algar, Kurtis Brossard, and Brett Eeles, each picked up one goal with Thomas Faris getting two for the night for the Hornets.
Hornet defenseman Jeff McCarty, said the Cougar goalie played a major factor in shutting down the Hornets in the early going.
“Their goalie stood on his head tonight. He was unreal. That was a big factor in tonight’s game.”
Good goaltending may have been a factor, but the Alliston forward lines turned it around when they had to.
With eight wins behind them, and a long season ahead, McCarty said the team is focusing on keeping its game together.
“Everyone is taking it seriously,” he said. “We’re taking each game like it’s our first of the season. We’re tying not to get cocky.”
Sunday’s game against the Fergus Devils started out strong with the Hornets getting two on the scoreboard in the opening minutes. The Hornets did a repeat in the second, scoring twice within the first two minutes to take a five-goal lead.
Fergus rebounded later in the second scoring twice and putting the pressure on the Hornets.
The Devils picked up another goal early in the third period during three-on-three action when both teams had two men in the penalty box.
Aaron Maltais beat the Fergus goalie midway through the period when he found himself alone on a breakaway and made a quick move in front of the net to score.
A final empty-net goal gave the Hornets a 7-3 win over the Devils.
The Hornets go on the road this week for a Thurs., Oct. 18 game against the Stayner Siskins.
They return to home ice on Fri., Oct. 19, to take on the Midland Flyers.
The puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the New Tec Rec.
