Steam will be the power behind everything from miniature locomotives to delicious corn-on-the-cob over the Civic Holiday long weekend at the Georgian Bay Steam Show grounds just west of Cookstown.

The Georgian Bay Steam Show will stoke the fires in the boilers and be ready to go for the association's 43rd annual show in Cookstown over the Civic Holiday weekend Aug. 1 to 4.

In addition to a variety of steam-powered vehicles, machines, and antique tractors, the show will also have several agricultural demonstrations, such as sheep shearing. Threshing and baling demonstrations as well as an operational steam-powered sawmill will be featured attractions.

Spend the day taking in the sounds and smells of the days when power came from burning coal and wood.

There will be a pancake breakfast each morning at 8 a.m. and a corn roast every afternoon, and late at night after the music is finished.

There will be a parade of antique cars, tractors and steamers at 4 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The parade will be at 2 p.m. on Monday.

The featured tractor pull is Friday night at 6 p.m. There will also be tractor pulls throughout the day, but they are restricted to members only.

There are slow tractor races every afternoon, and at about 1 p.m. each day there will be a kiddie tractor pull.

There will be country music entertainment daily, and a talent show Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. There are two categories - 16 and under, and 17 and older. There are prizes for all participants, and trophies for the winners. To pre-register call Wayne at 905-833-5269 or 416-771-5328, or Ellen Hickson at 705-458-1336.

The Steam Show grounds are located on the 14th line just west of Cookstown.

Parking is free. Admission is $6 per day. Children under 12 free when accompanied by an adult.

The grounds are open from 7:30 a.m to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday; 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday; and 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday.
